The anti-smuggling organisation of Pakistan, Customs Preventive, recovered smuggled mobile phones worth more than Rs1 billion by raiding two different areas of the city on Monday night.
Sources privy to the matter informed The Express Tribune that two separate raids were conducted by two teams from the Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation based on a tip-off.
One of the raids was conducted at a warehouse in Gemini Market in the Saddar area from where 25,000 to 30,000 smuggled Q-Mobile phones were taken into custody while during a raid on a three-story building – in the Baloch Colony area on Shahrah e Faisal – around 70,000 to 80,000 phones, from the same company, were recovered.
Smuggled mobile phones, tablets worth Rs284m seized
This is the second major anti-smuggling action by Customs Preventive ASO within three days. Sources said that this was the third time that the Preventive and Directorate Customs Intelligence ASO was taking action against Q-Mobile for smuggled mobile consignments that were not properly declared.
The sources added that the recovered phones have been sent to the government’s warehouse for inventory.
