Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said the combined wealth of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari is more than the total debt of Pakistan.

“Sharif and Zardari borrowed money and transferred it into their own accounts. If all that money is recovered, the value of rupee will surpass that of the dollar,” the PTI chief said while addressing a public gathering at Municipal Stadium in Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh on Friday. The venue lies in the constituency of MNA Jamshed Dasti.

Khan was invited by Ghulam Mustafa Khar, the feudal lord of South Punjab, who had joined the PTI after leaving the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Heavy contingent of police were deployed to ensure tight security. A boundary of barbed wires was made around a separate area reserved for women for their safety.

“Pakistan was not born poor as right after its establishment it gave loan to Germany,” said Khan, adding that it all became possible because of honest leaders.

He said Pakistani people, with their hard work and struggle, had helped more than 50 countries prosper.

“Every Pakistani is under a debt of Rs124,000 because of the corrupt rulers who have taken loans in the name of Pakistan,” he said.

He said the rulers could not build a single hospital in the country, even for their own treatment. “The condition of public hospitals is so pathetic that four patients are accommodated on one bed,” he said, adding that Sharif and his family received treatment in London while poor women were giving birth to their children on the roads.

“Even I go to Shaukat Khanum hospital for treatment,” Khan added.

He said due to high tax rates, a poor man could not even afford the basic amenities of life, adding that people were forced to pay 35% tax on purchase of petrol and 50% on purchase of diesel.

“There is no clean drinking water in Pakistan. We will introduce a better system using the ballot,” he pledged.

Addressing the participants, the PTI chief said, “If you are in the assembly then you are the representative of the people. In true democracy, the head of a state is always accountable in front of the people.”

He advised the people not to sell their votes for temporary benefits and money. “Do not make deals on future generations just for money,” he said.

“The time has come for everyone to stand up for their rights,” he said, calling it the PTI’s duty to make people realise their own potential.

Khan called Finance Minister Ishaq Dar “the king of money laundering”, asking, “Why did the National Accountability Bureau let him escape from the country?”

He claimed that the police system in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) is better than in Punjab. He said crime in K-P had declined more than 70% and terrorism had been eliminated in a very short span of time.

He promised to bring real change in the country on coming to power.

“We will provide all kinds of facilities to farmers as the country’s development depends on the their prosperity,” he said. “We shall formulate farmer-friendly policies.”
