Dengue cases fall by 80%

District health officer says government cannot fight with dengue menace without public support

RAWALPINDI: Due to timely surveillance and anti-dengue spray, 80% decline in cases was registered in 2017 compared with the previous year, said District Health Officer Dr Amir Sheikh on Thursday.

Chairing a meeting to review anti dengue arrangements, Sheikh said dengue fever cases have registered a sharp decrease in the city this year as on 276 dengue patients were treated at Allied Hospitals, whereas last year the number was 1,160 and 3,304 in 2015.

He expressed hope that in November, the number of dengue cases would witness a further decline as weather gets cooler which was not suitable for breeding of dengue mosquito.
