LAHORE:
The Children Hospital, even after a revamp, was unable to fill the vacant posts of professors and assistant professors. Thus far, 829 important posts were still vacant even after the inclusion of 614 new beds at the indoors facility.
“The vacant posts in a hospital, which is said to have Asia’s biggest health facility in terms of providing healthcare to the children, is a serious matter of concern,” said Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt, who also submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly in this regard on Thursday.
She said that the hospital was not functioning properly due to these vacant posts. Moreover, the parliament demanded the government fill these posts immediately so that the hospital could become thoroughly operational, she added.
Medicine supply at Civil hospital comes to a halt
In September, the Punjab chief minister inaugurated the modern facility which was constructed at a cost of spending Rs2.5 billion. The expenditure enabled the increasing the total number of beds to 1,100 with 16 new operation theatres.
However, Institute of Child Health Dean and Children Hospital Head Professor Dr Masood Sadiq refuted the claims of Hina Pervaiz Butt. He said that these were false allegations as summaries of all vacant posts had already been forwarded to the health department and were now subject to approval.
On the other hand, most important vacancies had already been fulfilled including posts of specialist professors, he added. He said the hospital was already working to fill vacant posts and 200 hundred nurses were recently brought into the our hospital.
“The interviews of assistant professor and other important posts are ongoing. Therefore, it is not right to say the administration is not doing anything to fill these vacant posts,” he claimed.
He said that technically speaking, the resolution was incorrect as all the departmental processes had already been conducted. The head of the medical facility stated assistant professors were working on the post of professors until the health department approved their summaries.
Workers protest against privatisation of hospitals
He said that they were carrying on the mission of providing state-of-the-art health facilities to people so that the Children Hospital Lahore became a glorious example of the government’s vision.
Meanwhile, a health department spokesman said that due to official processes, there were several vacant posts of professors and associate professors at not only the Children Hospital, but other government health facilities.
He said that it was a regular process and the posts of professors and other frequent transfers in different hospitals was a departmental issue.
“The health department has constructed this state-of-the-art health facility, so why would we not fill vacant posts?” he asked. “All work is going to be done on time, he committed.
