AJK to spend Rs32m on gyms for women

PM Haider says will offer more sports opportunities for people

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan on Wednesday said that his government has released more than Rs32 million to establish gyms for women.

Prime Minister Haider was addressing the award distribution ceremony of Youth and Sports Department for conducting successful national level cricket tournaments in the capital city of AJK.

“Our women have equal rights in our society and to encourage them, very soon, AJK Sports Department will open indoor sports facilities and gyms for them,” Premier Haider added.

He further said that more than 60 per cent population of AJK is youth which need best sports facilities and in this connection both Mirpur and Muzaffarabad cricket stadiums will get floodlights to conduct national level tournaments at night to provide entertainment to the people in summer.

He said stadiums in Bagh, Kotli and Rawalakot will also be upgraded with the latest sports facilities. Badminton and squash sports facilities will be introduced across AJK and there will be no hurdle in the way of finance for the completion of these projects.

Secretary Sports Raja Abbas said that for the first time in the history of AJK a cricket team from the United Kingdom (UK) headed by Peter Alan Oborne, a British journalist and broadcaster, who was the captain of the team, played two matches here with the message to the world that come and play cricket in AJK.

Abbas further said that the foreign players arrival in AJK was made possible by the commitment of the present government with sports in the region.
