SARGODHA: A court awarded death sentence to a murder convict for his involvement in a murder case in Sargodha.

The judgment was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Jasra. The prosecution told the court that accused Obaidullah, a resident of Chak No 114/SB, had gunned down his 40-year-old aunt Noreen Bibi over a family dispute on August 10, 2014.

The local police registered a case against the accused and presented the challan before the court. After hearing the arguments, the judge handed down death sentence to Obaidullah and imposed a fine of Rs 0.5 million on the convict.

Meanwhile, in another case, Anti Corruption Court Special Judge Muhammad Azam Saroya awarded 16 years collective rigorous imprisonment to two employees convicted for embezzlement and corruption.

Court officials said that Cooperative Housing Society officer Abdul Rehman in collusion with Inspector (Cooperative) Mushtaq Ahmad had embezzled Rs1 million. They withdrew the amount from government account and allotted plots and shops to their favourite people after preparing fake documents.

After corruption charges were proved in the court, the judge awarded eight year rigorous imprisonment each to culprits Abdul Rehman and Mushtaq. The court also imposed a fine of Rs1.6 million on the convicts

Earlier in July, a court awarded death sentence to a murder convict and life term to two others for their involvement in a murder case in Sargodha.
