Govt to standardise VCs' appointment criterion
Hiring to be based on educational, administrative potential, says university board secretary
KARACHI:
The Sindh government has decided to introduce a standardised criterion to appoint vice chancellors (VC) in all universities across the province and has initiated actions in this regard, said Sindh University Board Secretary Muhammad Hussain Syed, while talking to Express News.
He added that this decision was made to resolve the administrative issues confronting the government and to restore the prestige of the varsities that have been adversely affected due to the performance of their VCs.
‘University committed to students regardless of financial constraints’
"The appointment of the VCs at arts, agriculture, engineering, medical and veterinary universities will be in accordance to the prescribed criteria," explained Syed. He added that as per the standard operating procedure, hiring would be based on educational and administrative potential. The step will bring positive changes in the educational standards and administration of the institutes, he said.
"To make the examination board more efficient, the examination conduct, copy checking and announcement of results is being upgraded in compliance with international standards," said Syed.
Higher purposes of a university education
To discourage the practice of rote learning and to promote objective learning and improve the educational standards, the proportion of the objectives in examinations will be extended and the subjective part will be updated to modern standards, he added.
