Free laptops distributed among 28 AIOU students

University enrolled 1,000 prisoners from 97 jails of the country.

FAISALABAD: Free laptops were distributed among 28 students of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme at regional campus in Faisalabad.

AIOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui was the chief guest on the occasion. While addressing the ceremony, he said that AIOU was designing new courses to meet the day to day requirements in educational sector.

AIOU to offer workshop on gender studies 

He said that AIOU had designed 26 new courses, besides arranging 100 research seminars, including 26 research seminars during the last three years whereas its 14 research papers had so far been published.

The VC said that AIOU enrolment had jumped up to 1.4 million, including 40,000 students from Faisalabad.

He maintained that although High Education Commission (HEC) was funding AIOU, the university was also arranging research projects worth Rs0.2 million every year with its own resources.

He pointed out, “AIOU is also providing facility of online admission while the education is offered free to jail inmates and special people.”

AIOU to accept new admissions from August 

Shahid Siddiqui said that AIOU had enrolled about 1,000 prisoners from 97 jails of the country, while a special course of three-month duration had also been introduced to provide basic education of Urdu, English and Mathematics.

Later, AIOU vice-chancellor distributed laptops among 28 students.
