ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Tunisia are negotiating a preferential trade agreement (PTA), Tunisian Ambassador Adel Elarbi said on Saturday, adding that it is expected to be formalised within the year. Addressing members of the business community during his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he said that Tunisia was a gateway for Pakistan to enter the larger African market. “Lack of awareness on both sides about potential for mutual cooperation has meant Pakistan could not exploit the geographical location of Tunisia for achieving benefits for its economy,” Elarbi said. The envoy said that 80% of Tunisia’s trade was with the European Union and Pakistan could promote its exports to Africa and EU by enhancing cooperation with Tunisia.
