QUETTA: Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali has said that only constitutional supremacy can help Pakistan out of the “current chaos”, warning that his party will oppose all unconstitutional moves.

“The rule of law and the supremacy of parliament and constitution should be adhered to. Chaos occurs whenever anyone tries to bypass these three essential pillars,” said Asfandyar while addressing a press conference on Saturday.

He was accompanied by ANP provincial chief Asghar Khan Achakzai, MPA Engineer Zamrak Khan, Senator Dawood Khan and other senior leaders of the party.

The ANP president said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other anti-corruption agencies should treat all citizens equally. He also called for investigating the offshore companies revealed in the Panama Papers properly.

He also shed light on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), saying that Nawaz Sharif could not fulfil his promises regarding the share of province from the economic corridor. However, he expressed optimism that PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would do what his predecessor could not.

“We were told that the CPEC’s western route that passes through Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) is among the top priorities of the government. However, it seems that the federal government is now neglecting the route,” he said.

Asfandyar expressed annoyance that despite the majority support, Fata’s merger with K-P was being delayed “just because two political parties are against it.”

For the past 70 years, he added, the FCR law had been imposed on the people of Fata and “it is time to show them that they too are equal citizens of Pakistan”.

The ANP chief was of the view that since Pakistan had a tense relationship with three of its neighbours, the country’s foreign policy should be reviewed.
