Sufism preaches the message of love, peace: Qureshi

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is also the custodian of the shrine Sufi saint Bahauddin Zakariya, said Sufism delivered a message of brotherhood and peace and their teachings were still relevant today as they were centuries ago.

He expressed these views while addressing the concluding ceremony of 778th Urs of Bahauddin Zakariya on Saturday.

Addressing the devotees at the last session of the Urs, Qureshi said Sufi saints delivered a message of love and peace.

“They spread brotherhood and harmony through their teachings. Their teachings are still relevant even today as they were centuries ago,” he said.

Qureshi also shed light on the role of saints in spreading the message of Islam which he said was a religion of peace, tolerance, love, harmony and brotherhood.


“Religious scholars, intellectuals and organisations should also work collectively to help eradicate terrorism.

Sufi shrines are the centres of education where importance of love and humanity is taught. The custodian of the shrine also praised the efforts of religious scholar Siddique Khan Qadri who has been organising the event for the last four decades.

Qureshi said he would also play his role for the betterment of society, adding he would visit Sindh very soon to spread the message of the saints.

Later, Shah Mehmood Qureshi offered a special dua for peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan. Meanwhile, foolproof security arrangements were made by the district administration on the occasion while camps were set up by the Auqaf department and Pakistan Railways to facilitate the devotees who came to Multan from across the country.
