K-P govt plans to set up three universities
Provincial cabinet suggests housing colonies should not be built on agricultural lands

In a news which will be greeted with joy by thousands of students, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to set up three new universities across the province.
These universities will be set up in Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Mardan, bringing to 28 the number of public sector universities in the province.
This was revealed by Advisor to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister on Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani on Thursday.
Ghani said that the provincial cabinet, in a meeting chaired by K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak at the Cabinet Room of the Civil Secretariat in Peshawar, had discussed five important issues.
He added that the cabinet approved the K-P Universities Amendment Ordinance 2017 and approved the establishment of three new universities including University of Lakki Marwat, DI Khan Agricultural University and Mardan Engineering University.
He further said that the cabinet had deferred a request from the Agricultural Department regarding the use of agricultural land for construction and had formed a committee under the supervision of additional chief secretary to look into the matter from every aspect.
He added that Khattak had urged for greater focus on fulfilling the agricultural needs of the province.
With the completion of Chashma Right Bank Canal, the province can increase its production of wheat.
Ghani added that the government will plant around 500,000 olive tree across the province.
The cabinet also suggested that housing colonies should not be built on agricultural lands.
The cabinet also approved the K-P Judicial Academy Amendment Bill 2017 and called for improving the quality of training provided to jurists.
The provincial cabinet further approved the K-P Rural Area Drinking Water Supply Scheme Amendment Bill 2017 and appointment of Dean for K-P Girls Medical College. The health department presented the K-P Medical Teaching Institutions Reforms Act 2015 which was approved by the cabinet.
K-P Provincial Building Management and Control Act 2017 was also approved by the cabinet while names for Board of Governor members were also approved.
The provincial cabinet also approved the name of Board of Governor for Gomel Medical College in DI Khan.
