Five big katchi abadis regularised in Karachi

15 slums also added to the list, says director of katchi abadis

KARACHI:
The Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority (SKAA), on the recommendations of Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, the adviser to the chief minister for katchi abadis, has regularised five slum areas of Karachi and also added 15 other areas to the list.

While talking to the media, SKAA Administration Director Abdul Ghani Jokhio said that five slum areas of the city - Shanti Nagar, Awami Zamrud Colony, Quaid-i-Azam colony, Mustufa Colony and Kando Goth - have been regularised, and a notification regarding the change has also been issued.

He said that the 15 slum areas, including Hasan Brohi Goth, Ramzan Brohi Goth, Jan Muhammad Brohi Goth, Noor Muhammad Brohi Goth, Scheme 33, Ghani Abad, Highway Colony and Hindu Para, along with several other settlements have been added to the list of katchi abadis.

Jokhio mentioned that these regularised areas, comprising nearly 5,000 houses, have been a part of the city since 1985. Repair and construction work of streets in Bedal Colony and Awami Zamrud Colony will commence this week, he said.

He also said that the SKAA is working tirelessly to help the settlers get possession rights, adding that action against the land mafia is also being taken.
