Observing ‘Black Day’, Kashmiris in Scotland rally against Indian aggression in held-Kashmir

Four Scottish lawmakers also participate in the rally, support Kashmiris' right to self-determination

MUZAFFARABAD: Observing a ‘Black Day’, Kashmiris living in Scotland staged a rally near the Scottish Parliament on Friday, condemning Indian aggression in the held-Kashmir.

The protest was organised by the Tehreek-e-Kashmir United Kingdom (UK) and was led by Senior Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK)Tariq Farooq, AJK Assembly Member Abdur Rashid Turabi, President Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK Faheem Kiyani and Scottish member of the parliament Anas Sarwar.

The rally started from Johnston Terrace Edinburgh and culminated near the parliament. Four sitting Scottish members of the parliament, present during the protest, also supported Kashmiris' right to self-determination. The participants chanted pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK President Faheem Kiyani vowed to expose Indian forces' human rights violations in the valley across the Europe and other western countries.

“On October 27 in 1947, India invaded Jammu and Kashmir against the will of Kashmiris and until now India forces have killed more than five lakh [500,000] Kashmiris to continue its illegal occupation. Kashmiris want their right to self-determination which has been granted by the United Nations,” said Kiyani.

On the occasion, Anas Sarwar said Indian forces were blinding Kashmiri children using pellet guns and over 400 children had lost their vision. He added that blinding people was one of the worst human rights violations in the world.

“The European Union should take notice of the Indian aggression in Indian-occupied Kashmir,” Scottish Human Rights Forum President Javed Gill said during the protest.

According to Tehreek-e-Kashmir Scotland President Raja Muhammad Hanif and Dr Irfan Jahangir, the Indian army was behind the braid chopping incidents in the disputed valley, They said the world must take action against the Indian troops' shameful tactics.

Senior Minister AJK Tariq Farooq said the people of Kashmir would continue their legal and genuine struggle to break the shackles of slavery.

“October 27 is the blackest day in the history of Kashmir as on this day India violated all the international laws to invade in the largest area of the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Jaamat-e-Islami AJK former chief Abdur Rashid Turabi.

Turabi also appealed to the UN and Scotland to pressure India to stop human rights violations in Kashmir.

Bunny Rabbit | 7 years ago | Reply These expat Kashmiris have long ago lost the plot . a lot of water has gone under the bridge and its better if they get on with their lives and help with things like scholarship etc for their brethren . . this Kashmir problem does not seem to behaving a solution in near future given the stubborn attitudes of both the countries.
