KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the provincial home and police authorities on a petition to retrieve 300 acres of private land from alleged illegal occupation by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faryal Talpur in Thatta district.

A two-judge bench directed the provincial law officer and respondents, including the provincial home secretary, the inspector-general of police, the Thatta SSP and Talpur, to submit their replies on the matter by November 13.

The petition was filed by a resident of Thatta district, Akbar Jatoi, who named the provincial home secretary, the IG, MNA Talpur, the Thatta SSP and others as respondents.

The court was told that the petitioner had purchased 300 acres of land in Shah Bandar after making payments and fulfilling the mandatory legal requirements. However, it was alleged that the PPP leaders had illegally taken over the land in question and the petitioner was being harassed and threatened to forego his claim over the piece of land.

The petitioner claimed he had come to know that the land was illegally encroached upon at the behest of Talpur, who is the sister of former president and PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

The judges were told that applications were moved to the police and other relevant authorities to get the land retrieved from the illegal occupants but nothing had been done. Therefore, the court was pleaded to direct the official respondents to retrieve the land from the encroachers and restore its physical possession to the petitioner.

After hearing initial arguments, the bench issued notices to the provincial law officer, the home secretary, the IG, the Thatta SSP, Talpur and other respondents to file their replies to the allegations contained in the petition. The hearing was fixed on November 13.
