The farmers in the province would have to face FIRs and fines on burning husk of crops in the province.
Toxic emissions: Alternative factory fuels causing respiratory disease
Punjab Environment Protection Minister Begum Zakia Shahnawaz gave this directive to Agriculture Department in a meeting on Thursday. She directed the department to check all the districts through field staff and inform the assistant commissioners about violations.
Power generation: Industries forced to use expensive sources
She asked the DCOs to ensure monitoring process, get FIRs registered and impose fines on burning husk, a process that can contribute to smog phenomenon. The minister asked the DCOs to hold meetings with concerned departments daily on the issue and send report to Punjab chief minister for taking strict action against absent officers.
