SUKKUR:

Print and broadcast journalists came together on Thursday to protest recent threats, including an armed attack on a journalist and the detention of an Express News team by the Gizri police.

The protesters assembled near clock tower roundabout, shouting slogans against the government for its ‘failure to protect people’s lives’.

Imdad Bozdar of the Indus Union of Journalists condemned the armed assault on Metro One TV reporter Naveed Kamal.

He also spoke against the Gizri police for attacking journalists while they interviewed policemen, who were extorting money. The Express news team was held by the police and locked up for a few hours.

Journalists are being targeted but the police are taking no action against the culprits, which means that the government supports this, complained Bozdar.

The protesters demanded that the culprits in Kamal’s case be arrested and the government take action against the policemen responsible for locking up the news team.
