LAHORE:
The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) chief has demanded that the government establish exclusive expo centres for furniture products in all mega cities in a bid to promote the industry’s share in the national economy.
“Only 25% of local industrialists and traders visit (furniture) fairs, but after the establishment of new expo centres with greater facilities, more people will come to multiply their trade with foreigners and local investors,” said Mian Kashif Ashfaq, CEO of PFC, on Monday.

He called for establishing the display centres in big cities like Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad as well as Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Peshawar and Quetta.
While announcing the holding of 9th Interiors Pakistan Expo 2017, Ashfaq said in the past PFC had organised eight mega exhibitions and got encouraging response from the public and private sector alike.
“As many as 100 brands will exhibit their products at the expo that is aimed at promoting and introducing Pakistani interiors, furniture and accessories in and outside of the country,” he said. China, Italy, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Hong Kong, Bulgaria, Denmark and Thailand have been invited to participate in the exhibition. Delegations from other countries are also expected to take part.

According to Ashfaq, the exhibition will provide younger designers and architects an opportunity to study market trends and display their own work alongside more established professionals. Speaking on the occasion, PFC Secretary Hamid Mahmood emphasised that the objective of Interiors Pakistan was to give local entrepreneurs exposure to major markets in the country. “This activity is aimed at uplifting the socio-economic condition of the community and connect entrepreneurs with the buyers,” he added.
