‘Hospitals are not being privatised’

Outsourcing of services to be carried out after proper bidding

LAHORE: A spokesman for Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has said that neither any hospital was being privatised nor such policy was under consideration in the department.

He further said that in public sector hospitals some services like parking, security, canteen etc had already been outsourced for the last many years, in addition to that non-clinical services like laundry, janitorial services, electrical fixation of lights, plumbing, lift etc were being outsourced. The spokesman categorically said that it was not being privatised.

He said that this outsourcing would be carried out after proper bidding. The spokesman said that basic objective of outsourcing of these services was to ensure proper maintenance of the installations of machinery and availability of better facilities to the patients.
