UN Corner opens in UET Peshawar
It's a matter of pride for UET to be among 50 universities in Pakistan that have UN Corner, says UET pro-VC Dr Noor
PESHAWAR:
The UN Corner has been established at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar by the United Nations Information Centre in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
''Pakistan is among the 193 member states of the United Nations, therefore, there is a need to provide opportunities to all young people to increase their knowledge about human rights and activities of the UN,'' Dr Stepheni Buri, head of the Swiss Cooperation Office, said while opening the center in presence of some senior officials, recently.
The UN Corner, she said, would be routinely updated with new publications from all UN agencies including magazines, newsletters, research studies and other publications on human rights.
“The young researchers will get updated facts about Pakistan and the UN efforts in the development sector,” Dr Buri added.

“Pakistan has to perform well to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030,” Dr Farman Ullah Anjum, regional head HEC Peshawar said.
He also spoke over the importance of the UN Corner for the students of the university.
Dr Noor Muhammad, pro-vice chancellor UET Peshawar, said: ''It is a matter of pride for the university to be among the 50 universities in Pakistan that have the UN Corner.''
He urged the students to take maximum benefit from it as it serves a single reference point for all the information material regarding the UN for university students, teachers and researchers.
