Helicopter goes missing near Indus River

Media reports state six people were on board the helicopter, search for wreckage continues.

KARACHI:
A private helicopter with six people on board went missing near the Indus River, media reports said on Wednesday.

Express 24/7 correspondent Sabin Agha said that the helicopter had crashed into the Indus River near Sehwan Sharif but no wreckage had been found.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Police and the Rangers did not have information of the crash, and the ISPR said that they had received the information from media reports. All three authorities have said that no wreckage has been found in a 50 kilometre radius of the area.


The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that the helicopter had not flown from Karachi.

According to Express 24/7 the pilot had lost contact with the air control room minutes after takeoff.

In October 2010, twelve people were injured when a helicopter being used by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for rescue and relief operations in Dadu – was forced to carry out an emergency landing near the Lachi village in Johi after it developed a technical fault in its engine.
