‘Early diagnosis is key to beating cancer’
Breast cancer awareness walk held at Liaquat National Hospital
KARACHI:
A breast cancer awareness walk was organised by Liaquat National Hospital on Thursday, in which staff and hospital administration took part.
They began walking from the hospital’s emergency entrance and participants walked throughout the hospital premises. They hoisted banners to raise awareness about the disease.
The medical experts at the walk said that cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world and needs to be addressed properly. They explained that it is not just the patient who suffers but also the family members who experience the ordeal and severe mental stress when their loved one is diagnosed with cancer.
Thanks to groundbreaking technological advancements in medicine, now all types and forms of cancer are treatable and, in many cases, curable, but it is imperative that the disease is diagnosed in its initial stages, said participants.
Gold could be used to treat cancer, scientists say
In women, breast cancer is the most prevalent and deadly of cancers. According to a conservative estimate, nine out of 100 women suffer from this disease. Many factors like poverty, lack of education, expensive medical treatment at private hospitals, lack of state-of-the-art health facilities in government hospitals and other social taboos make it difficult for breast cancer to be diagnosed in its initial stage, in turn adding to the number of deaths as a result of this disease.
Medical experts advise that women should routinely examine themselves for signs of breast cancer and immediately contact doctors in case of any symptoms.
