This was said by Auqaf Secretary Abdul Jabbar Shaheen during his visit to the district. Divisional Commissioner Momin Agha also accompanied him. The officials also went to different sites and selected the land near Sultan Shah Graveyard on Toba Tek Singh Road.
Graves and garbage as far as the eye can see
On the occasion, the secretary said that model graveyards were being established in all big cities to provide all facilities for burial at one place. He said that these graveyards were being set up on the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He maintained that an administration block would also be the part of the model graveyard. He directed the district administration to prepare plan for the proposed graveyard without any delay.
Earlier, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the establishment of a Model Graveyard Authority under the provincial government’s Shehr-i-Khamsohan project to develop and oversee affairs of model graveyards across the province.

The presence of an authority would ensure consistency in affairs of model graveyards across the province. The model graveyards developed under the project would be equipped with all burial-related facilities. These would include hearse service, coach service, a toll-free helpline, a mortuary, bathing facilities, janazgah and a centre for issuance of death certificates.
