Edhi officials said that Sohbat Khan, 42, and his wife Gul Hayat, 40, died on the way to hospital.

LAHORE:

A couple were killed and their seven children injured when the roof of their rented accommodation collapsed in Nishtar Colony, Kamahan Pind near Bank Stop on Tuesday.

Edhi officials said that Sohbat Khan, 42, and his wife Gul Hayat, 40, died on the way to hospital after the roof collapsed on them while they were asleep. Their children Mujahid Khan, 14, Shahid, 8, Aasia, 9, Laiba, 7, Zakir, 6, Tufail, 3, and Adnan, 2, were injured. Aasia and Laiba are reported to be in critical condition.

Inspector Ihsan Ashraf Butt said that a new roof had been laid on the house some time ago that was damaged in the rains.

The roof collapsed amidst heavy rain last night. He said that Khan, a labourer, had moved into the house a few months ago. He said the police had not lodged a complaint against the owner of the house. “We are already troubled with so much other work. We don’t want to get into these kinds of cases,” he said. He said Khan’s father accepted that it was an accident and refused to lodge a complaint.
