3 eunuchs remanded for two days

Man says he was robbed, eunuch allege revenge of the jilted.

LAHORE:

Three eunuchs were sent on a two-day physical remand yesterday. The eunuchs have vehemently denied the charge of theft that a complainant has lodged in an FIR registered against them. The eunuchs have countered the theft charge by terming it the revenge tactic of a jilted lover.

In the FIR, registered under Sections 420 [cheating and dishonestly] and 379 [punishment for theft] of the Pakistan Penal Code at the North Cantt Police Station on April 17, Lt Col (retd) Tasneem Bari Saleemi said that Bubbly, Saleem, also known as Chandni and Muhammad Nadeem took a ride from him and during the ride started caressing him. The complainant said the three took away his wallet which had Rs50,000 and his mobile phone.

Speaking with The Express Tribune at Cantt kutchery, Shahzad, popularly known as Bubbly, said that Col Saleemi had given them the phone so that they would call him anytime. Bubbly said that when pressed for money, she sold the phone recently. The Col felt cheated and retaliated by filing a fake FIR against her and two of her friends, she added. Bubbly, however, told The Tribune that Col Saleemi had been disloyal and did not deserve her love as he had filed a fabricated FIR against her. Bubbly and Chandni said they used to beg at the Airport traffic stop where two months ago, at 10 pm, the Colonel had picked them up from. Bubbly said Lt Col Saleemi offered her Rs500 if she sat with him for a while. She said she accepted the offer and very soon the complainant and her started getting intimate.

After a while, Bubbly added, the Colonel asked for her mobile number. On finding out that she did not have a phone, she said, he gave her a mobile phone and told her to always keep in touch with him

Bubbly said all went well for two months until Col Saleemi found out that she had sold the phone. She said she explained that she had done so because she needed to pay her rent and that she would continue to meet him at the traffic signal. However, when she could not make it to the traffic signal for four days due to prior engagements, the Col went and filed an FIR against her, she added.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Col Saleemi denied the allegation leveled against him. He said he had been robbed by criminals. He said he did not try to put up resistance as one of them had pulled a gun on him. He said he had traced his mobile phone by his IME.

Col Saleemi acknowledged the FIR had been filed late. He said he had visited Guldusht police post to get one registered but the in-charge had said they would register an FIR after arresting them.

The three, arrested on April 17, were standing handcuffed outside magistrate Malik Muhammad Shafique’s court room yesterday where an entourage of 20 eunuchs showered them with rose petals and prayed for their quick release.

The court granted a two day physical remand even though the police had asked for more.

The eunuchs’ lawyer told the court that the Colonel Saleemi had been Bubbly’s lover and had registered a false FIR against her when she sold his gifted mobile phone. He requested that the court send his clients on judicial remand.

The court room was marked with cries from eunuchs who praised the judge and passed disparaging remarks about the complainant. ‘Bubbly badnam huee, Col terey liye’ was a popular rallying cry. The FIR does not mention the accused pulling a pistol during robbery.
