A family affair at the squash championship
Mehboob brothers to represent Pakistan, father to be coach.
KARACHI:
The Mehboob brothers –Farhan, Waqar and Waqas – will represent Pakistan at next week’s Asian Individual Squash Championship taking place in Malaysia, vowing to live up to the expectations of the federation.
The family affair
It will be a complete family affair at the event as the three brothers will be accompanied by their father Mehboob Khan, a former squash player, who has been appointed as the team’s coach for the tournament. Pakistan, however, will be without the country’s number one Aamir Atlas who has been overlooked for the event due to a six-month ban placed on him by the Pakistan Squash Federation.
We’re well prepared: Farhan
Farhan, the eldest of the Mehboob brothers, has said that the team was well prepared and will not let the federation down after it decided to form the team comprising three brothers.
“We are very well prepared for the competition,” Farhan told The Express Tribune. “We’re undergoing vigorous training and I’m confident it will yield positive results.”
The 22-year old also said that the presence of all family members in the Pakistan squad is a proud moment for him. “It is an honour for us as we were selected following the trials and there was no favouritism.
“It would not be an easy task as there are a lot of good players on the Asian circuit.”
Meanwhile, sixth-seed Waqar believed he has improved tremendously in the training camp especially with the help of Jansher Khan’s tips while Waqas, the youngest, has set his sights on the scalps of the top players of the continent.
A total of 32 players will be taking part in the event to be held from April 26 to 30.
