Govt claims virus situation under control

As many as 188 confirmed dengue patients have been reported in Punjab this year

The government has claimed that as a result of effective measures taken by the departments concerned and intensive outdoor and indoor dengue surveillance, the situation in Punjab is now normal.

During the current year, as many as 5,232 FIRs have been registered, 747 people arrested and 296 premises have been sealed on the violation of anti-dengue regulations.

This was stated during a cabinet committee meeting chaired by Minister Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique at the Health Secretariat on Thursday. Besides, Minister Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, Special Secretary Primary Health Dr Faisal Zahoor and other high ranking officers of departments concerned participated in the meeting through video link.

Dengue Control Additional Director General Dr Farrukh Sultan briefed the meeting on the latest dengue situation in the province and the steps taken by various departments to curb the spread.


He said 188 confirmed dengue patients have been reported in Punjab during the current year.

Moreover, 104 dengue patients from Islamabad have also been reported in Rawalpindi hospitals where complete free treatment was provided to them. The deputy commissioners and CEOs of health from other districts apprised the meeting of dengue control activities in their respective areas. Khawaja Salman Rafique directed the Multan Waste Management Company, Lahore Waste Management Company, Agriculture Department and Fisheries and Auqaf to enhance their anti-dengue activities and improve performance. He also stressed the need for speedy resolution of complaints received through the Punjab Health Line.

During the meeting, Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir expressed displeasure over the poor performance of sistrict officer preventive (health) Bahawalpur and disconnected him from the video link. He told him to appear in Lahore along with the relevant record. Nazir made it clear that negligence in dengue control measures would not be tolerated.
