Saudi Arabia shows interest in energy sector
Shaikh meets finance ministers of regional countries to discuss cooperation.
WASHINGTON:
Saudi Arabia is interested in investing in Pakistan’s energy and agriculture sectors, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said after meeting with Saudi Finance Minister Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf.
Meeting on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank spring gathering, Shaikh and Assaf discussed investment opportunities that Pakistan offered for Saudi businesses.
Shaikh also reaffirmed the government’s policy to facilitate foreign investment in various sectors of the economy, including energy, as the country hoped to overcome electricity shortages and encourage industrial production.
Talking to Iranian Finance Minister Seyed Shamsuddin Hosseini, Shaikh discussed how the two countries could strengthen cooperation in trade and transportation.
Shaikh also held talks with Afghan Finance Minister Omar Zakhilwal on increasing bilateral commerce. A delegation of Pakistani entrepreneurs is expected to visit Afghanistan to explore investment opportunities in fields such as mineral development and communications.
