Security beefed up for processions in Bahawalpur

Streets connecting to the routes of processions have been barricaded with barbed wire

BAHAWALPUR: Security has been beefed up as 70 majalis (religious congregations) and 31 mourning processions will be taken out in the district and more than 1,200 security personnel have been deployed to provide security to these processions.

On Muharram 8, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kotwali seven mourning processions will be taken out while five processions in Police Station Uch Sharif, four in Police Station City Ahmadpur East, two in Police Station Qayampur.

1,520 imambargahs to be provided security during Muharram

Throughout the district 70 majalis will be held. Police have made strict security arrangements and participants of the majalis and processins would be searched thoroughly. Streets and roads connecting to the routes of processions have been barricaded with barbed wire.

Lady police personnel have been deployed to search women participants of processions and majalis. All SDPOs and SHOs have been directed to perform security checks of all procession routes before their start.

Security personnel would be deployed on the roof of buildings on the either side of the routes of processions. SP Investigation Rab Nawaz will supervise the security arrangements throughout the district and brief the officials regarding the sensitivity of their duties.
