Lusting for lace!

Lace: The fabric which has been forever associated with bridal finery is big news for the summer.

Lace — the fabric which has been forever associated with bridal finery is big news for the summer, especially as the wedding season is just around the corner. With all the humidity in the air, women yearn to slip into something a little lighter. It may not have the instant impact of a vibrant print, but there’s definitely an air of sophistication which comes with an outfit adorned with lace.

Designers have pulled out all the stops to bring us myriad of styles ranging from classic whites and boho layers to eye-popping neon hues. Deepak Perwani’s Summer Collection 2011, saw embroidered lace embellished beautifully in various outfits as did Nadia Hussain’s Lawn 2011 collection. Extensive lace work was seen in the astounding collections of HSY, Sobia Nazir and Yahsir Waheed.

Lace has the ability to compliment any body type. So whatever budget or personal taste you have, don’t be afraid to combine lace into your look this summer, be it in a sari or shalwaar kameez.

Here’s a look at the various trends for lace:

Erdem — ladylike lace

This season’s designer-of-the-moment did what he does best and treated us to a delectable selection of stunning dresses designed to make women look, and feel, beautiful. His collection exudes elegance and is all about modern classics. Figure-flattering shapes have been given a fresh twist with exquisite lace detailing. Every piece gives off a covetable, girly charm. The designers uses a simple but effective palette of crisp whites, mouthwatering cherry reds and rich navy which is perfect for summer evening party wear.

Alberta Ferretti — boho lace

The Italian fashion house offers us a unique range of hippie-lux lace looks, offering a palette of ultra feminine cuts with carefree, effortless appeal. Loosely flowing shapes make for ultimate wear-ability during the summer months. Ferretti also taps into another popular trend of the longer hemlines and creates a palette of delicate ivory and darker, earthy hues which bring a natural feel to the lace pieces. A combination of floral prints and detailing such as embroidered leaves make us all feel worthy of attending the Royal Wedding. Wear with flat sandals, flowing, un-tamed locks and minimal makeup to unleash your inner goddess

Christopher Kane — modern lace

Fashion’s fastest rising star leaves us all speechless with his high voltage take on this season’s lace trend. Whoever said lace was for those over 40 obviously hadn’t laid eyes on Christopher’s collection! Lace is given a summer makeover in bright, fluorescent hues including fuschia, acid green and eye-popping orange.Vibrant shades contrast with classic shapes, longer length skirts and traditional detailing such as pleating, knits, twinsets etc and keep things youthful. This is undoubtedly the most fashion forward way to work the lacy look. Every design exudes fearlessness and fun. Only the most daring should attempt to rock these colour-pop pieces.

Iman’s Dos:

• Wear white lace, it is not too bridal

• Wear longer hemlines in lace, to create effortlessly chic looks

• Wear minimal makeup

• Opt for flowing locks and boho hair

Iman’s Don’ts:

• Wear synthetic lace, looks tacky

• In shapeless cuts, doesn’t do justice to the beauty of the fabric

• Over accessorise, let the satement be in the fabric
