2 divorcees found shot in Bath Island flat

The police are investigating the murders of two women who were found tied to a bed and shot in the forehead in their Bath Island flat.
The victims were identified as 45-year-old Rehana and 48-year-old Zulekha. The police found the bodies at around 1:30 am on Friday after members of the residential committee called. According to Special Investigation Officer Mobeen, who is investigating the case, they have arrested a man named Asghar who was held by the security guards. According to the police, the gatekeepers and members of the residential committee at Mehmoodabad apartments, Asghar rented the flat seven months ago. He said he was from Dadu and his mother used to own one of the flats in the apartment block two years ago.
He paid Rs30,000 in rent. According to Zulfiqar, a resident who introduced himself as a member of the committee, Asghar said that the women were his mother’s sisters and they would paid Rs25,000 of the rent. However, questioning revealed that Asghar had given residents three different names. According to the gatekeepers and security guards, on Thursday five young men on motorcycles came and were buzzed up by the intercom to the flat by the women. They then left. Subsequent visitors came but the women did not pick up the intercom and they left. Thursday night, Asghar came to the flats, went upstairs and then came down shortly after.
The guards stopped him and told him that the women had not been answering the intercom from the middle of the day. Asghar told them that he had left his keys in the flat. One of the guards grew suspicious, held Asghar and other people broke the door down, upon which the bodies were discovered. The bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors have reserved the postmortem report. The police have registered an FIR No. 313/10 under Sections 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against unidentified men on the complaint of Rehana’s ex-husband.
According to the police, gatekeepers and members of the committee the flat was not disturbed. Investigators took the women’s cell phones and have started tracking their records. The police said they had taken some evidence from the flat. The gatekeepers said that the women had a car of their own and came home at midnight and went out at 3 pm. The neighbours mostly said that they never had any trouble from the women. The police said they were divorced, one eight months ago and the other ten months back. Rehana’s family lives in Kharadar and Zulekha’s in Garden West. According to the police, Zulekha was the ex-wife of one Abdul Rasheed and Rehana was married to Ejaz.
Both were Memon. Rehana’s ex-husband filed an FIR. “They were good women and never did any harm or anything bad,” said neighbour Huma. Huma only once got a chance to talk to her neighbors. They had chatted about the hot weather in the lift. “I do not know anything else about them but am extremely sad for them.” According to sources Asghar is the son of a woman who was married to the son of a former CM Sindh and relative of a member of the current Sindh Assembly. Clifton Town SP Tariq Dharejo called the murders an open killing.
