Tomato price hits Rs200 in retail

The price control magistrates have apparently turned a blind eye to the price hike

ISLAMABAD:
The price of tomato has skyrocketed to nearly Rs200 in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The Islamabad Market Committee has announced whole sale rate at Rs128-168, but the kitchen essential was selling at around Rs200 per kilograms whereas and in some upscale localities even at Rs250. The average price of the red fruit was alarmingly high as compared to average of Rs50 to 60 per kg. The price control magistrates have apparently turned a blind eye to the price hike. “It was worrying that not only tomatoes rates but prices of all other vegetable have shot up,” a homeowner Humera Khan said.
