Four suspects were arrested in Bahawalnagar on Monday as security agencies thwarted a plan to carry out a terrorist attack in the city during Muharram-ul-Haram.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) raided a hideout in the Hafizwala Phatak Bypass area of Bahawalnagar where a group of three men was planning to carry out a terrorist attack.

Explosives, detonators, ball bearings and other tools were seized from them.

Police chalk out foolproof security plan for Muharram

The arrested men been identified as Muhammad Imran, Minhas Idrees and Habibullah. They are being interrogated for further information.

To avoid any unfortunate incident in Muharram the federal and provincial governments have devised security plans while tough security measures have been taken.

On Sunday, three suspected terrorists affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and the Sipah-e-Sahaba were killed during a shootout with security forces in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

District Police Officer Raja Abdul Saboor confirmed that the militants were planning to attack a Muharram procession.
