English counties to miss Champions League

English county teams will not play in the Champions League Twenty20 this year in September because it clashes with their domestic season.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) conveyed the decision ‘with great regret’ according to a Daily Telegraph report. Sussex and Surrey - finalists of the domestic Twenty20 tournament last year - earned the right to play the tournament in South Africa that features top Twenty20 domestic teams.

But the England teams’ participation was put in doubt after the schedule clashed with the English domestic season and the England-Pakistan one-day series. The ECB had accommodated the Champions League – originally scheduled in October – by tweaking its schedule but the tournament was brought forward because of India’s home series against Australia.
