The district administration of Rawalpindi has ban the entry of nine firebrand clerics in the garrison city during Muharram to maintain law and order. According to a list issued by the commissioner’s office, Maulana Ziaul Islam, Maulana Umer Farooq, Mufti Khalid Hussain Abbasi, Professor Talib Rehman, Mufti Tanveer Alam, Mazhar Ali Kazami, Mirza Hassan Askari and Dr Rizwan ul Hassan have been banned from entering the premises of Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer Wisal Raja on Sunday reviewed security arrangements for Muharram. He directed to strengthen security at and around the congregation, procession routes and Imambargahs. According to a handout issued by the RPO, he stressed the need for maintaining an atmosphere of religious harmony and brotherhood through divisional and district peace committees in their respective areas. The RPO further said no one would be allowed to stand on rooftops of commercial and residential buildings situated along the routes of mourning processions.
