Snooker: Robertson stunned in World Snooker

Australian lost 10-8 to England’s Judd Trump who clinched victory with a break of 83 in the 18th frame.

SHEFFIELD:

Snooker’s World Championship got off to a stunning start with the defeat of defending champion Neil Robertson.

The Australian lost 10-8 to England’s Judd Trump who clinched victory with a break of 83 in the 18th frame. Trump was leading 5-4 after the morning session. When they resumed, Robertson pinched a frame to make it 5-5, but the Englishman went up 6-5 after a 70 break.

An erratic display from the Australian enabled Trump to seize an early opportunity in the 18th frame and made a rapid-fire break to settle the outcome. Meanwhile, Welshman Andrew Pagett’s Championship debut ended in the first round following a 10-7 defeat against Jamie Cope.
