He was deployed as the officer commanding the newly-established border post in Rajgal
LANDIKOTAL:
A young officer of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom when terrorists from across the border fired upon a Pakistani post in Khyber Agency on Saturday.
Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, 22, who belonged to the army’s Sindh regiment, was commanding the border post in Rajgal, in the Tirah valley, when it came under fire from inside Afghanistan.
“Terrorists fired from across the border on newly established Pakistani border post in Rajgal, Khyber Agency. Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, the officer commanding that post, got hit while performing his duties and embraced Shahadat,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, 22, was stationed at the high-altitude post next to Afghan border after the military completed its operation against terrorists in the area. He was among those officers and Jawans who were posted to defend the area from cross-border infiltration.
Reports said Lieutenant Arsalan Alam was shot in the head by a sniper and was airlifted to Peshawar for treatment, but he succumbed to his injures at the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar.
Later on Saturday, his funeral prayers were offered at the Peshawer Garrison. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, the Peshawar Corps Commander, military and civil officials and relatives of the martyred officer attended the prayers.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of Lieutenant Arsalan Alam. In a statement issued by the Prime Minister Office, he prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
“The war against terrorism, in fact, is a war of our existence as a sovereign nation,” the prime minister said. "Our valiant forces have inflicted huge damage upon terrorist elements but at the same time have rendered huge sacrifices in doing so,” the statement added.
“Each drop of blood of our heroes is a testament to the fact that we all are united as a nation to cleanse our beloved motherland from terrorist elements," he said, adding, “These cowardly attacks on our law-enforcing agencies can never flinch our resolve to back off or even slow down in our resolve to continue with anti-terror operations.”
