Infuriated students set ablaze six buses after tragic death

College students and friends of the deceased burnt tyres and blocked the road

FAISALABAD: Infuriated students of Government Islamia College set six passenger buses on fire when their fellow student was killed by a rashly driven bus near Jamia Chishtia Chowk in Faisalabad on Friday.

SP Lyallpur Town Ahmed Mohyuddin said Haider Ali, a resident of Haiderabad Locality, was crossing Sargodha Road near Jamia Chishtia Chowk when a speedy bus hit him. As a result, he was killed on the spot.

After the incident, a large number of college students and friends of the deceased burnt tyres and blocked the road. They pelted stones on buses, nearby shops and also set ablaze six buses.

Later, a heavy contingent of police, including SP Lyallpur Town Ahmed Mohyuddin and SP Madina Town Malik Jamil Zafar, reached the site and held negotiations with the protesters. They assured them that a case would be registered against the accused bus driver. After the negotiations, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
