Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj met at an informal SAARC’s  Council of Ministers meeting on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York.

After the meeting, Asif told reporters that he had an informal conversation with Swaraj wherein he inquired about her health following her kidney transplant. Other than that, he added, no other issue was discussed between the two.

The meeting was hosted and chaired by the foreign minister of Nepal.

In his remarks during the meeting, the foreign minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to SAARC’s principles and objectives and highlighted the organisation’s potential in promoting progress and prosperity in South Asia through enhanced regional integration.

He also noted that Pakistan considered SAARC an important platform for organising a collective response to regional challenges, particularly the region’s development needs, the Foreign Office quoted him as saying.

"Pakistan wants SAARC to utilise the full potential of the region and there should be constructive engagement towards this end," he added.
