TEVTA, NUST join hands for skilled workforce

Authority offers its help to the varsity, saying the latter can demand specific courses

LAHORE: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) have agreed to cooperate for technical and vocational courses at NUST’s Sialkot Campus.

A meeting in this regard was held at the TEVTA Secretariat and attended by the authority’s chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, NUST (Academics) Pro Rector Air Vice Marshal (retd) Dr Asif Raza as well as Director Academics Dr Qaiser Hameed Malik, among others.

Producing quality, productive workforce

Officials from both the organisations decided to join hands for the promotion of technical and vocational education and provision of skilled labour for the industry, particularly Sialkot.

TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh vowed that TEVTA would fully cooperate with NUST for the provision of quality training to the youth. He also said TEVTA and NUST could cooperate for the technical and vocational sector in multiple ways.

He also offered NUST the chance to demanded courses of any particular industry at any TEVTA institute across Punjab. Besides, he also announced that TEVTA would provide cooperation for the technical and vocational courses at NUST’s Sialkot Campus.

The chairman also said TEVTA has been striving for the provision of skilled labour to serve the country. He continued TEVTA had remarkably increased the number of short courses over the last three years and a special focus was laid on the linkage of short courses with the demands of the industry. He added that demand driven courses of TEVTA were not only providing labour force in the local industry, but in foreign countries as well.

He also informed the NUST delegation that TEVTA was putting up a university at the Government College of Emerging Technologies Township. He added it would later be shifted to its state-of–the-art campus at Government College of Technology on Raiwind Road.

NUST delegation and officials expressed keen interest in becoming part of Pakistan’s first-ever technical university being established by TEVTA.

NUST Pro Rector Dr Asif Raza said NUST can start any specialised technical degree programme at the varsity where NUST will teach students.
