Police claimed on Wednesday to have foiled a major terror activity planned in the city for the upcoming Muharramul Haram, recovering a huge cache of explosives, arms and ammunition from the city outskirts.
According to police officials, they receieved a tip-off about the presence of terrorists belonging to alQaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) who were plotting a terror activity during Muharram. Addressing a press conference, Korangi SSP Noman Siddiqui said the police got a tip-off that the terrorists of AQIS were hiding weapons at a location in Burmi Colony in Landhi. Upon receiving the information, the police conducted a raid at Burmi Colony in Landhi, the officer added.

"The terrorists opened fire on the police and escaped under the cover of fire due to darkness," SSP Siddiqui explained. The police later recovered a huge cache of explosive material, five bombs, four hand grenades, 10 rocket launchers, 10 launcher shells, three Kalashnikovs, two 7mm rifles and ammunition. Cases against the terrorists have been registered, while further investigations are under way.
