Government’s requests to Twitter for account information and removal of accounts in the first half of 2017 was all time high since the social media platform started publishing transparency report in 2012 detailing take-down requests from governments around the world.

The government made seven account information requests between January 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017, compared to four requests made during the second half of 2016.

With the increase in the number of requests, the number of accounts specified in the requests has also increased from 38 during the period of July-December 2016 to 60 in the first half of 2017.

However, Twitter did not comply with any of the requests.
