Rishi Kapoor has a lot on his plate at the moment. While his latest release Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi bombed at the box office and his family studio (RK Studios) was struck by a tragic fire, the actor has stoked the flames again by slamming two Anurags – Kashyap and Basu.
In an episode of Neha Dhupia’s podcast, the host played a game with Rishi which required him to talk for one minute about a subject she’d provide. Not one to pass up gossip, she gave him one word to go off on: Anurag, reported The Indian Express.
Rishi did her one better.
“Anurag? There is Anurag Kashyap, who made Bombay Velvet, but he made a better film in Gangs Of Wasseypur, I couldn’t understand head or tail of Bombay Velvet,” said Rishi.
“And then there was Basu who made Barfi an outstanding film. I am so happy he took my son for it. My son got great recognition for the film and then he made this Gajja Jasoos..what Jagga Jasoos whatever.. which he made a total mess of. It was as messy as my pronunciation was,” he added.
Rishi went on to say, “He probably got indulged too much. I guess both the Anurags got indulged in their films. You know when they are good enough to work on certain budget and suddenly they are given huge budgets in hand, he goes absolutely berserk.”
“So I think that’s what actually happened with both these guys. They were given budgets they could not handle and I guess it happens. It happens with every director, every actor you can’t have a hundred percent record anyway…So it happens,” he said in an interview with Bollywood Life.
Apart from this, the actor made it clear that one should stop taking Bollywood award ceremonies seriously. He said, “Awards are not based on merit anymore, they are compromised and are more about bargain for something or the other. They are about naach gaana and in our country, they are nothing but a joke. You don’t have to take it seriously. The real reward is the performance of a movie at the theatres.”
Here are four noteworthy secrets Rishi revealed in Neha’s show:
1. Habits which Rishi wishes Ranbir Kapoor would not have inherited from him or his mother Neetu Kapoor
Ranbir is very obliging and kind which I don’t like at all. He can’t say no. He has so much patience. He will bloody miss his flight but will not deny a selfie to a fan. And I am so irritated when someone asks me for a selfie. I just can’t take it and I get unnerved when the person is searching for the button to click the photo.
2. On his controversial tweets
I tweet for myself and not for others. People mistake it for a personal comment. I can’t be right always.
3. On his late father Raj Kapoor:
Raj Kapoor is an enigma. Today we are realising the grandeur of his name. Raj is someone who is known to today’s youth. The young generation still sings songs from Raj’s movies in various nations. People are talking about him even after 29 years of his death instead of talking about Ranbir, Karisma or Kareena. We didn’t know in our younger days that he is such a phenomenon.
4. On what Kapoor Khandaan talks about on their luncheon
We are always consumed with food conversations. At breakfast, we discuss what we’ll have for lunch and at lunch we discuss dinner. We relish discussing food.
