Bollywood’s pioneer make-up artists divulge all...
Bollywood actors always have to be on their A game and look their best. And their make-up artists are usually hard at work to do exactly that! Compiled by International Business Times, here is a list of Bollywood’s most trusted beauty artists’ secrets who have given us an insight into their mind:
Foundation shade
Mickey Contractor, who has worked with top actresses like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt, says buying the right shade of foundation is very important.
It’s no secret that many Indians and Pakistanis tend to buy a shade or two lighter than their actual skin colour in order to look fairer. Regardless of everyone’s obsession with such a notion, it’s always better to stick to a shade closest to your skin tone.
Moisturiser
Priyanka Chopra's former make-up artist Uday Shirali believes moisturising the skin is key. It should always be on the top of the list and the first step to make-up application.
Rihanna launches brand new beauty line for 'all skin tones and races'
To no surprise, Mickey Contractor seconds that and states moisturising will help in the smooth application of foundation and concealer.
Eyelashes
Ojas Rajani, who has worked with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan declares "Too much mascara or thick, fake eyelashes can weigh down the eyes or look harsh. Try using individual lashes when working with false ones to give your eyes just enough glam. The key is to look soft, young and glamorous; very thick lashes can be an overkill."
Sonam Kapoor's make-up artist Namrata Soni has advised curling the lashes before mascara application as it will make them look fuller. If you want the curl to stay in and last longer, try warming the curler beforehand.
Nadia Hussain's five beauty secrets
Eye make-up
International makeup artist Donald Simrock has previously worked his magic on the Kardashians, Priyanka Chopra and Shraddha Kapoor. He expresses the importance of creating a base on the eye lid with a liquid or gel bronzer, to get the perfect smoky eye.
Arti Nayar, who has worked with Sonam Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, professed “Changing your beauty look from day to night is really easy when you wear kajal or eyeliner on your lower lash line in the morning. To switch it up, simply dot some highlighter or shimmer eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes to open them up and give you a dressier look."
Hair
Deepika Pudukone’s former hair artist Anil Chinnappa says a very simple way of getting bouncy hair is to “just crimp sections of hair close to the scalp. Crimping will add more volume and texture to the hair. Then, you can take the front sections and comb back.”
Cheeks and lips
Mickey Contractor further suggested that blush should always be applied on the apple of the cheeks and one should work upwards and outwards. For the lips, he proposes to use a lip liner and then blend it out with a lighter shade of lipstick so that it doesn't leave any sharp lines.
