PU organises sessions on countering extremism
PU admissions in MA/MSc, BS Honor for academic session 2017-18 will start from Sept 18 to 28

Punjab University (PU) College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES) organised four one-day orientation sessions on countering extremism with its faculty members and non-teaching staff under “Inspiring the Future” project.
The project was jointly launched by CEES and Centre for Health and Gender Equality (CHANGE). Addressing the session, CEES Principal Dr Sajid Rashid said that these sessions were intended to engage professors and administrative staff in promoting peace narrative to their students through their day to day interaction.

He said the sessions were attended by more than 120 participants of various departments which included faculties of sciences and social sciences. He said that throughout the session participants gave away feedbacks based upon their experiences and made the session interactive.
In these sessions, the professors extended their full support and cooperation in further dissemination of the peace narrative with other faculty members, administrative staff and students of PU.
The efforts of the implementation team were lauded by the PU Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan and Faculty of Life Sciences Dean Dr Shahid Kamal. Certificates were distributed among the participants in the end of sessions.

Meanwhile, Punjab University annual admissions to MA/MSc and BS Honor (4 year) programme for academic session 2017-18 will start from September 18 to 28.
PU VC Prof Zaffar Mueen Nasar, while talking to a delegation of faculty member, said on Sunday that all admissions would be made strictly on merit. A committee headed by the most senior Faculty of Engineering Dean Dr Muhammad Taqi Zahid Butt would check the overall process of fresh admissions in all disciplines. He said that merit lists would be displayed according to schedule on notice boards and websites of each teaching departments by the directors, chairpersons and heads of the departments concerned.
An innovative solution to extremism
He said affidavit to be submitted by all the successful candidates had also been modified wherein they would be bound to abide by law of land and refrain from indulging in any anti-state activity directly and indirectly.
He said special arrangements had been made to address the genuine grievances of candidates promptly and candidates facing any problems in connection with admissions could even see chairman admission committee or dean of the faculty concerned. About PhD and MPhil admissions, he said that he personally visited all the departments and supervised the process of admission; all candidates who obtained requisite marks in entry test were given admission purely on merit.
