ATC sentences man to 28 years for possessing explosives

FAISALABAD/ SARGODHA: An anti-terrorist court awarded 28 years imprisonment to an accused for possessing explosives in Sargodha on Friday.

The judgment was announced by ATC Judge Traiq Mehmood Zargham. The prosecution told the court that on June 20, 2016, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, Mianwali conducted a raid at a house in Khora area in Khushab and arrested accused Nazir Ahmad.



The police also seized explosive material, four detonators and two safety fuels from his possession. The police registered case against the accused under terrorism act and presented challan in the court.

During proceedings of the case, the accused was found guilty and was awarded 28 years rigorous imprisonment. The judge also ordered to confiscate the property of the convict. He was shifted to district jail Mianwali.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorist court in Faisalabad awarded five years imprisonment to an accused for possessing explosives. The judgment was announced by ATC Judge Muhammad Khalil Naz.

The prosecution told the court that CTD police, during checking, had recovered explosive material and detonators from Masaab Mehmood of Rawalpindi near Kamalpur Interchange in 2016.



However, the police arrested the accused and registered a case against him. After hearing the statements and considering the evidence, the ATC judge handed down five-year jail term to Masaab.

The court also ordered to confiscate the property of the convict.

Similarly, Special Judge Central Suhaib Ahmad Roomi awarded seven years imprisonment to a man over fraud charges.

The prosecution told the court that accused Qamar Shahzad had received Rs0.96 million from a citizen Zafar Iqbal on the pretext of sending him abroad. But the accused neither sent him abroad nor returned his money.



On complaint of Zafar Iqbal, the FIA team arrested the accused and submitted the challan in the court. After hearing the statements, the judge handed down seven-year jail term to Qamar. The court also imposed a fine of Rs1.1 million on the convict.

Earlier on September 14, an ATC awarded 24 years imprisonment to two accused who were involved in a shoot-out with the police in Jhang.

The judgment was announced by ATC Judge Muhammad Khalil Naz. The prosecution told the court that Satellite Town SHO Saifullah Bhatti, on a tip-off, conducted a raid at a hide out to arrest bandits. On seeing the police party, the accused opened fire.

As a result, Constable Zubair Khan suffered bullet injuries. The police returned the fire, killing accused Suleman, while three accused Basharat Ali, Amjad and Shahid alias Bao were injured. The police arrested them and registered a case against them.

A Judge of Anti Terrorist Court (ATC) Tariq Mehmood Zargham on Friday awarded 28 years imprisonment to a man involved in terrorist activities.
