Rangers detain seven suspects across Karachi

One of the suspects confessed to blowing up gas pipelines, power transmission lines in Hub

KARACHI: The Rangers claimed on Friday to have arrested seven suspects during ongoing targeted raids in parts of the metropolis. Members of a banned sectarian outfit and a Baloch separatist party were among the apprehended suspects.

During a raid conducted near Hub Chowki area, the paramilitary force arrested a suspected militant belonging to a nationalist party of Balochistan. He was identified as Muhim Khan, son of Sher Jan. According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspect had been affiliated with Lashkar-e-Balochistan since 2012 and was involved in a number of cases of terrorism.

The spokesperson said that during the initial interrogation, Khan revealed that he was involved in the grenade attack on a vehicle of the agriculture department near Hub Chowki in June 2014, bomb blasts at high transmission lines and transformers in Hub area in September 2014 and January 2016, an attack on an under-construction building in Hub in January 2015, setting a private university's van on fire in April 2015, an attack on a police mobile in Hub in August 2016 and several attacks on gas pipelines and electricity poles in Karachi and Hub. The spokesperson added that the Rangers seized arms, ammunition and improvised explosive devices from his possession.

Separately, an alleged member of a banned sectarian outfit was arrested by the paramilitary force during a raid conducted in Nazimabad locality. The suspect was later identified as Jafar Hussain alias Nai. The Rangers spokesperson said he was affiliated with Sipah-e-Muhammad Pakistan and involved in extortion and dealing of arms and ammunition.

In another raid, another suspect, Tabish alias Chand, was arrested in the Lyari neighbourhood. According to the spokesperson, he belonged to a gang based in Lyari and was involved in various crimes, including extortion.

A member of a political party was arrested during a raid in Zaman Town, Korangi. The suspect was identified as Niazuddin alias Jani. The spokesperson said he belonged to a political party and was involved in arson during strike calls.

Meanwhile, three more suspects, Rehmat Khan, Haroon and Abdul Razzak were arrested by the Rangers during separate raids in Zaman Town and Sharafi Goth areas. They were allegedly involved in multiple cases of crime. The suspects were later handed over to the police for the initiation of legal proceedings.
