Besakhian: 300-year-old farmer’s festival starts
The Besakhian festival is organised each year before the wheat cultivation begins.

The 300-year-old Besakhian festival was organised in the district following the beginning of the wheat crop cultivation on Friday.
In Layyah’s Kotla Haji Shah area, the Besakhian festival is organised each year before the wheat cultivation begins. Hundreds of cultivators and their families take part in the festivities.
The festival includes a parade of prize bulls from across Punjab, as well as a bull race. There is also a volley ball and wrestling competition.
Scores of farmers and their families participate in the festival and also put up stalls of produce.
