Suspecting infidelity, man slaughters wife and three daughters in Kasur

In a separate incident, father sets his three children on fire after a quarrel with wife

KASUR: In a gruesome incident of honour killing, a man slaughtered his wife and three daughters in an eastern Punjab district on Monday.

The man, Muhammad Hanif, slit the throats of his wife, 40-year-old Shahida, and three daughters – Tayyaba, 16, Laiba, 14, and Samra, 8 – in Basti Sabri village of Kasur district, according to local police.

Interestingly, Hanif spared his three sons, who he had locked up in a room before slaughtering his wife and daughters.

Hanif, a security guard at a state-run school, turned himself in to police who have also recovered the weapon, a knife. In a confessional statement, Hanif told the police that he suspected his wife of infidelity.

However, villagers in Basti Sabri dismissed Hanif’s suspicion, saying Shahida was a loyal wife and loving mother.



In another incident, a man set his three children on fire after a quarrel with his wife in a Kasur district village.

Ali Muhammad Meo, a resident of Pindi Jattan village, set himself and his three children on fire at his home after a noisy brawl with his wife.

The children died, while Ali was driven to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital in a critical condition where medics said he had little chances of survival.

The dead children have been identified as two-and-a-half years’ old Halima, Muhammad Abdullah, 1, and a six-day-old newborn girl.

According to neighbours and relatives, Ali was depressed because his wife had left home after the quarrel to live with her parents.

Ali’s father Noor Muhammad, mother Akbri Bibi, and Ali Raza also received burn injuries while trying to save Ali and the children.
