Court petition: KPT legal assistant asks for promotion
KPT ignored orders from Prime Minister's Secretariat and interviewed new applicants for the post.
KARACHI:
A Karachi Port Trust (KPT) worker, Sultan Ahmed Jalbani, has gone to court over a promotion.
Jalbani said that he has been working for KPT as their legal assistant in grade 7 since 1994. He asked for a promotion after the assistant law officer (grade 17) post opened up in 2000. When his request was ignored, he went to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in November 2010. It directed the KPT to look into his case. Instead of acting on these orders, KPT interviewed new applicants, the petitioner submitted.
Jalbani requested the court to declare the interviews held on April 9 as null and void and to direct KPT to promote him based on the length of his service and experience.
After the hearing on Friday, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Shahid Anwar Bajwa, put the ports and shipping secretary and KPT chairman on notice for May 12.
